Ikat or Ikkat is a technique of dyeing usually done on silk or cotton fabrics which results in fabric bathed in beautiful and glittered colour patterns. The Ikat fabrics have their origins from the state of Odisha and are most popular to make sarees. The yards of Ikat fabrics, before they are woven into fabrics, are dyed and binded into threads. Often ikat fabrics are considered to be similar to the Tie and Dye fabrics but both are very distinct from each other on the fact that in the Ikat fabrics, the fabric is woven at a later stage and before weaving the fabric it is dyed and binded into threads and on the other hand, the tie and dye fabrics are first woven and then dyed into various colours.
